RXi Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: RXII) is a biopharmaceutical company developing novel treatments for human diseases using a technology called RNA interference (RNAi). RNAi was discovered by our co-founder, Dr. Craig Mello, who was awarded the 2006 Nobel Prize for his groundbreaking work in this area. By harnessing the power of RNAi, we believe that RXi Pharmaceuticals may be able to develop a new class of therapeutic products that could have a number of distinct advantages over today’s drugs.

RNAi is a naturally occurring mechanism for the regulation of gene expression that has the potential to selectively inhibit the activity of any human gene.  As a result, RNAi may potentially treat human diseases by “turning-off” genes and blocking the production of disease causing proteins before they are made.

RXi’s pipeline is currently focused on the treatment of inflammatory diseases and metabolic disorders using its comprehensive RNAi platform that includes both RNAi compounds and delivery methods.  Our research and development efforts are lead by an outstanding team with a strong track record of discovering new technologies and moving RNA based drugs into the clinic.

RXi was founded by world-leading researchers in the field of RNAi, began operations in January of 2007 and started trading on the Nasdaq in March of 2008.
